| Reinventing
the New England Economy:
What
Role for Higher Education?
Keynote
Speaker: Dr. Evan Dobelle, President,
New
England Board of Higher Education |
|
Sponsored
by Nellie Mae Education Foundation.
|
|
|
| Throughout
its history, the New England economy has periodically reinvented
itself to adapt to changes in technology, competitive forces and
federal policies. As New England grapples with increasing pressure
placed on its leading industries by global competition and rapid
technological change, it appears that once again the regional economy
will have to reinvent itself in order to meet the challenges presented
by a rapidly changing world.
The New England Economic Partnership’s upcoming biannual economic
outlook conference will focus on Higher Education. The conference
will explore the evolving role of this vital New England economic
sector that is expected to be both a major driver of regional economic
growth as well as a critical source of the scientific and technological
innovation that will be critical to the region’s future competitiveness.
Join NEEP’s experts for a comprehensive discussion of these
issues and expert analysis of present and future economic conditions.
The morning session will begin with an analysis of the current outlook
for the US economy by Gus Faucher, Senior Economist of Economy.com.
NEEP’s forecasters will present the economic outlook for the
region and for each of the New England states, as well as provide
commentary on critical issues that will affect growth in the region.
New England Board of Higher Education President Evan Dobelle will
give the conference’s keynote address. Dr. Dobelle’s
remarks will address the conference’s main theme–the
role for Higher Education in the New England economy. Four
respondents will comment briefly on Dr. Dobelle's address, followed
by audience participation.
